Criminal Investigation

The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the investigation of all reported criminal offenses, excluding narcotics offenses, occurring in Ellis County and outside the incorporated city limits of those cities staffing a municipal police department. The Division is staffed by nine investigators. These investigators have been trained with sections in expertise including auto theft, gangs, property crimes, crimes against persons, crime scene search and public integrity crimes. The Division is commanded by a Lieutenant with daily supervision provided by a Sergeant.

Lieutenant Shane Thompson

Lieutenant Shane Thompson first began his law enforcement career in 2001 as a detention officer for the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office obtaining his peace officer license in 2003. He has served as a patrol deputy, patrol supervisor, criminal investigator, and as a Sergeant in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Office. Lt. Thompson has investigated a wide variety of cases such as property crimes, fraud, crimes against persons, and crimes against children. Aside from primary duties, Lt. Thompson also serves as a member of the honor guard, a marine safety officer, dive team, and crisis negotiations team.
