Patrol Division

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division is commanded by two Lieutenants. The Division is made up of uniformed Patrol Deputies including License and Weight Deputies and K-9 Deputies.


Patrol Mission

The Patrol Division of the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting the lives, property, and rights of all. We will enforce all laws impartially while maintaining the highest degree of ethical behavior and professional conduct. We will strive to be a part of the community that has empowered us to serve. We are committed to developing partnerships with the citizens and strive to work together to solve problems throughout the County.

Patrol Overview and Duties

Patrol Deputies are the first to respond and arrive at any emergency situation. They respond to tens of thousands of calls for service a year. They are the most visible members of the Sheriff’s Office. They have contact with the public on a daily basis. The Patrol Division is considered an integral part of the Sheriff’s Office. They provide the first line of defense against crimes in our County. Their dedication to duty and desire to make a difference help to make Ellis County a great place to live, work and raise a family. The Patrol Division provides 24-hour service, 365 days a year, through four patrol shifts.


They are responsible for:

  • Responding to all calls for service
  • Maintaining law and order in the community
  • Enforcing all laws
  • Detecting and preventing crime
  • Arresting and citing violators
  • Conducting preliminary investigations of crimes against persons and/or property
  • Execute arrest warrants
  • Traffic accidents/traffic enforcement
  • License and Weight violations
  • Testifying in court
